Flapper Fix, Roaring 20s Wedding.

Bright red lipstick, a neck full of peals and you’re on your way. The 1920’s saw an era of the new woman. She drank, she smoked, she danced and she could vote.

To work a 1920s style wedding you've got to pull out all the stops with the attention to detail. A ‘Flapper’ could technically be used to describe most brides. The term was used in WW1 to describe young girls who had not yet entered womanhood. Therefore we deem the word ‘Flapper’ a superb fit for most brides, and for a wedding theme, even better.
Praise the Lord for Fitzgerald, not only a literary magnificent, but a genuine attributor to the term ‘flapper’ as he described the ideal flapper as “Lovely, expensive, and about nineteen”. So if we drop the expensive and nineteen part we’re almost off the starting blocks.
The Dress
The ideal behind the flapper dress was instigated by Coco Chanel, the look was called ‘garconne’, which actually means ‘little boy’. That actually sounds a little scary, who wants to look like a little boy on their wedding day? Don’t worry the overall image worked its way throughout the decade to a very different definition.
Women strapped up there bosoms’ and dropped their waist line.  So that’s where we can start. To get the look you need to drop the waist line and add a sash - let’s just avoid the strapping of the breasts altogether! That’s not only going to cause you to go panting down the aisle through lack of oxygen, more importantly it’s going to really ruin your fantastic rendition of the Charleston dance.
Stockings are a must, and we will even allow ‘real silk’, although a true flapper wore rayon stockings. The 20s vale was sometimes flat and held in place by an orange blossom wreath. However to finish in true flapper style, you are not complete until you have an incredible chaplet head dress worn around the forehead and filled with feathers, diamonds and pearls. Bridesmaids
One word, FEATHERS! Have your bridesmaids ‘flappered’ up to the max by accessorizing them with feather bowers...and we don’t mean the bright pink kind!
Groom
We can’t let the bride have all the fun, your groom can go one of two ways, pin striped suite, ascot tie and felt roll brimmed fedora hat; or he can wear a morning suit with an ascot tie, white scarf and gloves. If you’re going all out, you could even add a walking stick.
Invites
If you decide to keep in theme you can go all girly with imagery of flapper head bands, pearls, champagne glasses and cigarette holders. However, whatever you do, do not forget to mention your 1920s theme; you don’t want to be the only flapper there!
Flowers
Remember flappers were unique and extravagant, and the flowers they had generally followed suit; you could even add a sneaky ostrich feather for effect.
Entertainment
Jazz band!! If you’re thinking of anything different... DON'T! The 1920s was an era of Jazz and ragtime and if you ain’t got that roaring twenties Charleston vibe mixed in there two, you might want to reconsider. How else are you supposed to bear those knees through your flappers dress without doing the Charleston?
Cabaret and speakeasies were a massive craze in the 20s, so make sure your venue resembles that. Easy touches would be to add beaded curtains in the doorways, or go crazy and add casino tables to your room.
Whatever you decide, your vintage 1920s inspired big day will be just like the decade. One to remember!
